About our Apprentice Doula Program

Our Apprentice Doula Program in Cincinnati, Ohio was created for compassionate individuals who are ready to begin their journey into birth and postpartum work while receiving guidance from experienced doulas, childbirth educators, and maternal wellness professionals.

This program offers aspiring doulas the opportunity to learn evidence-based care, emotional support skills, advocacy, labor support techniques, postpartum fundamentals, and professional development within a collaborative and heart-centered environment.

Whether you are newly exploring doula work or looking for a more connected and mentorship-focused training experience, our apprentice pathway is designed to help you grow with confidence.

What is an Apprentice Doula?

An apprentice doula is a certified doula or doula-in-training who is actively learning how to provide professional birth and postpartum support through mentorship, observation, education, and hands-on experience.

At Nurture, our apprentice doulas work alongside experienced and certified professionals to develop the practical and emotional skills needed to support growing families with confidence and compassion.

Throughout the program, apprentices gain experience in:

  • Birth doula support within a birth doula’s Scope of Practice

  • Postpartum doula support within a postpartum doula’s Scope of Practice

  • Emotional & Evidence-based support during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum

  • Communication and advocacy skills

  • Clinical reasoning and skills training within a doula’s scope of practice

  • Professional doula ethics and boundaries

  • Client communication and documentation

Our goal is to help apprentice doulas feel prepared, supported, and deeply connected to the work they are stepping into.

FAQs

  • A professional Doula training is required as a prerequisite to apply to this program but no previous doula experience is required.

    Nurture’s Birth With Ease® professional doula trainings are preferred but all doula trainings are accepted as a prerequisite.

    We welcome compassionate individuals who are eager to learn and feel called to support families through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

  • Yes! We are committed to providing each apprentice with the opportunity to support their own clients during the program. This hands-on experience is an essential part of your training and helps prepare you for a successful career as a birth doula.

  • Yes. Mentorship is a foundational part of our apprentice program. Apprentices receive guidance, support, and learning opportunities from experienced doulas and maternal wellness professionals.

  • This program is designed to provide mentorship, hands-on experience, and foundational doula education. Additional certification pathways may be discussed depending on your goals and interests.

  • The program is three months long and is designed to provide a balance of education, mentorship, and hands-on experience. During your apprenticeship, you’ll work alongside experienced doulas, attend births and postpartum sessions, and gain the confidence and skills needed to support families independently.

    Upon successful completion, you’ll receive a Certificate of Completion.

  • The Apprentice Doula Program is $700. This investment includes mentorship, hands-on training, support throughout the three-month program, and the opportunity to gain real client experience.

    Upon successful completion, you may also have the opportunity to join the Nurture team.

  • Yes! After successfully completing the apprenticeship, you’re welcome to apply to join our team of doulas.

    In fact, all Nurture doulas are required to complete our Apprentice Doula Program before becoming part of our team, making it the first step toward a career with Nurture.
