Why I Said Yes to Birth Work
There are moments in life that don’t just change you — they call you. For me, birth was one of those moments. I didn’t step into this work because it was trendy. I didn’t do it because it seemed like a good business idea. I stepped into birth work because something inside me would not stay quiet.
I was the woman who cried during birth stories. The one who leaned in when other people leaned back. The one who felt the sacredness of the room even before I had language for it.
There is something powerful about watching a woman realize her strength in real time. Something life-altering about witnessing a family being born. I remember thinking, This matters. This is holy work. And I knew I wanted to be part of it.
The Moment I knew
There wasn’t a lightning bolt.
It was quieter than that. It was a steady pull. A knowing that women deserve support. That birth is not just a medical event, but a transformational rite of passage. That how a woman feels in her birth story stays with her.
I saw how much fear exists around birth — and I knew I wanted to be someone who brought steadiness instead. Education. Calm. Confidence. Presence. Love.
I wanted to help women remember their power.
Why I Train Doulas Now
Becoming a doula changed my life. Not just professionally — personally. It deepened my compassion. It strengthened my leadership. It taught me to hold space in intensity without trying to fix or control it. It showed me what it means to serve without ego. And I realized something:
There are other women who feel the same pull I felt. Women who are already the calm one in the room. Women who are already supporting friends through pregnancy. Women who know they are meant for meaningful work.
Training doulas isn’t just about teaching skills. It’s about helping women step into who they already are. It’s about building confident, grounded birth workers who will go on to support families in powerful ways. It’s about ripple effects.
Have you been feeling the nudge?
Maybe you’ve felt it too. That quiet stirring when you hear a birth story. That curiosity about what it would be like to stand beside a laboring woman. That sense that you’re meant for something deeper, more purposeful.
If that’s you, I see you. I was you. And saying yes was one of the most aligned decisions I’ve ever made.
This work isn’t always easy. But it is meaningful. It is sacred. And it changes you in the best ways. If you’re feeling that pull, don’t ignore it. Join one of our upcoming doula trainings here at Nurture. Join us. Be part of our vision and mission to improve women’s health in the birth and postpartum space.
Sometimes the nudge is the beginning of everything.
