Featured in “The Bump”: A Spotlight on Doula Investment and Care
I’m honored to have been featured in a recent article in The Bump that dives into the real cost of hiring a doula and the deep value behind that investment. It’s a conversation worth having, and I was grateful for the opportunity to weigh in as an expert.
How Much Does a Doula Cost?
“This investment reflects not just support during birth—but weeks, sometimes months, of education, advocacy, and emotional care before and after your baby arrives.”
What stood out to me in this piece was its honesty about the variables that shape doula fees—factors like geography, experience, certifications, and the breadth of care offered.
The article breaks down typical doula pricing—ranging from $1,000 to $1,500 for a birth doula, and up in larger markets. It also notes that postpartum support usually averages $25–$50 hourly. As I shared in the article:
“This investment reflects not just support during birth—but weeks, sometimes months, of education, advocacy, and emotional care before and after your baby arrives.”
That investment of time, presence, and intention is at the heart of what we bring at Nurture. A doula isn’t just someone who shows up on your birth day—they’re someone who walks with you, listens to you, and equips you—in body, heart, and mind—for the transformation ahead.
At Nurture, our doula packages go above and beyond. They include extras like 10% off all of our other services, a free prenatal PT evaluation, access to yoga, classes, and special events, several prenatal appointments, unlimited birth support, backup doulas, postpartum care, and more. Every doula on our team is required to be certified both by a professional certifying organization and the State of Ohio Board of Nursing. They are also background-checked, as well as adult and infant CPR certified. I am proud of the level of professionalism, education, and experience we bring to the table—and I truly believe it sets us apart.
I’m deeply grateful to The Bump for the opportunity to lend insight into how much doulas cost and why they matter. If you’d like to explore how doula support can fit into your pregnancy journey—or if you’re curious about the different services we offer (birth, postpartum, hypnobirthing, prenatal yoga, massage, and more)—we’d love to connect!
